Public Trust Audits

Keeping power visible and temporary

The Core Idea

No system can remain legitimate if those who wield power are insulated from public judgment. Public Trust Audits are the primary mechanism through which NCG ensures continuous democratic accountability.

How Public Trust Audits Work

1. Regular, Transparent Ratings

Every six months, every juror, Meta-Coordinator, and senior official is subject to a public approval rating conducted directly through the National Platform. Citizens rate performance on simple, clear criteria: competence, integrity, responsiveness, and delivery.

2. Clear Thresholds

An approval rating below 50% triggers an automatic formal review. Persistent low ratings (below 50% for two consecutive audits) result in mandatory rotation or removal from position.

3. Public Reasoning Required

When a review is triggered, the individual or department must publish a public response explaining their record and proposed improvements. A dedicated Delivery Jury then reviews both the record and the response.

4. Full Transparency

All audit results, ratings breakdowns, and review outcomes are permanently available on the National Platform. Citizens can see exactly who is performing well and who is not.

Safeguards Against Abuse

  • Ratings cannot be anonymous — citizens must be verified users of the National Platform.
  • Deliberate campaigns of bad-faith ratings can be challenged and investigated by a jury.
  • Historical performance data is preserved so sudden drops can be contextualised.
  • Jurors themselves are also subject to the same audit process.

Why This Works

“Skin in the game is not a punishment. It is the minimum requirement for moral legitimacy. When those who decide no longer feel the consequences of their decisions, trust inevitably collapses.”

Connection to Other Mechanisms

Public Trust Audits work in concert with Delivery Juries, short terms, and the Forced Construction Rule. They create multiple overlapping layers of accountability so that no single point of failure can allow power to become entrenched.
